please tell me the use of "the & a/an"

sometimes i get confuse wether to put the or a/an

is it ok if i dont put "the" where i supposed to put it . . Thinking

please correct my writing if they're gramatically wrong

I want to ask somebody which color he likes. I think is "Which color do you like?", but I read, that correct is "What color do you like?"

Please, help me. And can you tell me why?

As regards the verb help, is it correct to use the preposition to before another verb?

For instance:

He helped her to cross the street or He helped her cross the street?

What's the rule?

Prepositions after verbs

Confused
Sometimes it is difficult to decide which preposition is to be used after a verb. I use to look up at the dictionary to decide which preposition is to be used but of course you can't find everything in a dictionary.

Let me ask you a question. Do you say "Talk of some problem" or "talk about some problem"? I use "talk about" but I have found "Talk of" and it sounds to me a bit strange.
Which is the correct form?
