At the Beach - Vocabulary

Average: 1.6 (203 votes)

Quite a few of our schools are located near beaches, so you may find this vocabulary very useful! Read this short text about my recent trip to the beach and try to complete the gaps with the correct vocabulary. How many of you are studying near a beach? What is your favourite beach? There is a town in Spain called 'Nerja' and they have the most beautiful beach, I wish I could go there for a few days now. Enjoy!

Upper-Intermediate Reading: English Coastal Towns

Average: 4 (10 votes)

Being from a seaside town myself, I'm particularly interested in how we can continue to celebrate their heritage within the UK. Recently, the national lottery has announced a fund to help seaside towns to improve their economic and social situations. This information comes from a government website and therefore has a slightly different tone to a newspaper article. What differences do you think you might notice? Read through the article and complete the gaps with the missing words.

Postcards

Average: 4 (46 votes)

We write postcards to friends and family when we are on holiday. They are usually very short and talk about what we are doing and enjoying. I just got this postcard from my Mum and Dad, who are on holiday in Tenerife! Read through the postcard and put the words in the correct gap.

When you have finished, imagine you are on holiday and you are sending a postcard to your best friend. What would you write about? Please post your answers below!

Danny's Reading: Christmas Review

Average: 3.5 (11 votes)

This April, my wife, my kids and yours truly are taking off to America for a two-week holiday, as avid readers of this monthly nonsense will remember me banging on about a couple of months ago. The flights for all four of us cost an arm and a leg, the travel insurance set me back a kidney, and the necessary permits to get into the country deprived me of another handful of non-vital body parts that I didn’t even know I had.

Danny's Reading - Travel

Average: 3.9 (11 votes)

I've never really understood the expression 'itchy feet'. I know what it means, of course, and for those of you who've never heard it before, itchy feet is what you get when you get the sudden urge to travel; to want to leave where you are because, suddenly, where you are is not where you want to be. I'’ve never felt like that. I've never felt the need to go out and see the world because, the way I see it, doing the job I do, the world tends to drop into my classroom and see me. So, I've never got itchy feet.

Until now.
